Hello mates,
I’m back on the google and writing to you amidst all the panic. Last time I was here I discussed coronavirus, now known as covid-19, and I am here to sadly say it has our humans more than worried. They themselves have been taking many precautions as is much of the rest of the world. As you mentioned George, in your writing, covid-19 is worse than before and spreading quickly. The humans here fear the worse, but hopefully the bush is safe.
Cynda overheard we are likely to be taken back to the bush soon. How soon we still do not know. With the flames still fresh in our memory we are all worried about what our old home looks like. Will there be any remaining eucalyptus for us to eat upon return. The humans sure can not just ditch us with no food, right? Other than the worry of how the bush will be upon our return I am quite excited. Unlike my fellow family members I have not fallen in love with the humans. I am grateful for all the care and such, but the constant touching by humans I have never been fond of. I have mentioned my discomfort with human touching before and I will be relieved to be gone from it for a while. The days here have turned into weeks then months and the end is coming.
I am happy to hear the news from Cynda and hope it is true. If it is true then this will likely be the last time I speak to y’all about anything. I will miss google and the ability to talk to you through this blog, but for all my followers I want you to know I have big plans for the bush. I assume the bush I once called home is decimated, but with all fires the end signals the time for recovery. The bush for sure has already begun this recovery and throughout the process my family and I will have to adapt. From humans I have learned that fires can be fought against and hopefully I can convince my family as well as other survivors to invest in protecting our home lands similar to the way humans do. I understand we lack resources you humans all seem to have, but I believe y’all just beat us to the punch.
I started this blog to voice my opinions and to share the current situation my family members, Millto and I had suffered. Unfortunately many of the people who inspired my blog were never around to read it, but I hope many others who got a chance to read my blog took some things of value away. I hope to write again some day, but with no humans means no google. To answer one last question for George, I do not know how things are going where I live, but I do know I will be seeing for myself very soon what things are like. I’m sorry to inform you and others that I will likely not be able to report back how things are going.
Thank you to all my readers and may someday I write to y’all again. Cheers to returning home and I hope y’all stay safe with covid-19 flying around as fast as it is.
Daku signing off. Have a good one mates.
Hello again George,
As I have mentioned before I do not know how the voting works and why humans are the only one allowed to participate, but I know you do not know either (if I remember correctly). Yet I am still very interested in how things shake out.
I do not understand all the fancy government terms, but from your post I took away that this is definitely a two sided-race even if there are seven candidates. It seems the candidates either care about the territory that you call home or about the fracking. I googled fracking and was shocked when I looked at the images. Land for as far as the eye could see all covered in machines. Not a single tree in sight in some photos. I have never laid my eyes upon land that looked so… well dead. I could only imagine seeing fracking in person and I would like to keep it that way.
So from google I found it was a type of oil drilling and confirmed the polluting effects you discussed. I would like to see the scientific inquiry Gunner speaks of. I have a feeling it does not exist since he never provided it. Water and land are staples to survival. If you humans contaminate it, what am I and fellow friends supposed to do? Find new homes? That would be totally ridiculous. I for one do not understand how one can support the contamination of others water. This Gunner fellow must be friends with Scomo. Both humans clearly do not care about my friends and I. To them we must just be objects.
The Country Liberals or the Laborers will do as long as they care about my friends and I, but from the sounds of it unfortunately the Country Liberals seem to support fracking. I like the list you made to help guide others to vote. If I had a vote I could say I would be using your suggested list as guidance. Although Aiya would not have my vote. With the little information I have I would vote for Braedon for the reason why you put him second. Stop fracking and protecting water are quite literally his stance. Any human against fracking will do, but Braedon is the only one I know based off your blog that for sure is against it.
It is bad enough we have to deal with all the fires that seemed to have no end in sight until the major rains a few weeks ago gave control back to the humans, but after surviving we now have to deal with fracking. Something humans can control, but yet do not want to. Shortly after experiencing terrible fires that destroyed the environment I call home, y’all want to continue to destroy the environment. You have to hold your humans in charge responsible like you mentioned. My family, friends and I all hope the government listens to humans like you to preserve your land and ours. I appreciate your support George and wish you and other humans like you the best in the upcoming election.
Howdy mates, it’s been some time since I have last been on here. The family and I are enjoying our new enclosure. The bright sun to keep me warm while I nap has been amazing. I do not know if you humans enjoy naps in the sun, but y’all are missing out if y’all have not tried it. Honestly there is nothing better than a nap in the sun. Along with the sun my dreams of flames have been easing up which has been nice. Other than the improvement of my sleep being with the family has been energy boosting. When I am awake I am eating more and for longer periods of time (less laying around… I would never sacrifice my naps).
The humans have been wearing masks for the past few days. I assumed the fire was nearing so masks for protection from smoke right? I mean I was starting to get lightheaded when I was running from the flames. Otherwise why would humans need the masks? Leave it to Cynda to get to the top of the eucalyptus tree on this one. She said one human has some sickness and they are all playing it safe to remain healthy. Sick usually means death, but Cynda assured us that human sick does not equal death most of the time like for us. While she was also climbing around Cynda found out that humans somewhere else in the world are getting sick and dying. With no end in sight. Although the humans here Cynda assured us are normal sick. Whatever that is supposed to mean. I guess that means it does not equal death for them.
As I am isolated in Australia with lil’ knowledge of what is going around I had to do a google search of humans dying around the world. It did not take me long to find out what was going on. Something called coronavirus. Apparently it has been spreading like crazy. The sickness originated in China. That is in Asia which is apparently above me in Australia. I looked at a map to see. It was right above us. I do not know how humans know this but it is amazing.
Anywho the sickness began there effectively putting the country on a lock down. Then cruise ships were contaminated and quarantined (I learned that this means the humans were isolated similarly to how I was when I was first saved by the humans). Now the sickness has scared humans across the world. Many countries are taking and/or have taken measures to protect themselves as the sickness spreads. Yet the sickness has still been spreading. Since beginning in China coronavirus has spread to multiple other countries (South Korea, Italy, etc.) and has caused more protections to be put in place. According to google y’all have had worse diseases, but this one is spreading like none other.
Can I be infected by the same disease as you humans? I should have checked that while I was googling around, next time. Unfortunately the sickness has made it to Australia. Wish y’all around the world the best of luck. Seems like y’all have defeated other sicknesses similar so I got faith y’all can pull it off again. Until I check in next time, stay healthy mates.
G’day polar bear mother from 2121. The coronavirus that an 80 year old man got sounds tragic. Hopefully he recovers quickly. I have read in other blogs many others are dying too. I began blogging because of deaths in my personal life and everyone on here seems to be blogging about deaths themselves (in one form or another). Is the major news just all deaths? Is that all humans report? I hope that the last month has just been super difficult on the world. Unfortunately it sounds like it does not get much better from here now does it polar bear mother from 2121? Otherwise you would not be here to warn us. Well fortunately for you I am a fellow animal who is worried themself.
Maybe this coronavirus is a good thing. You say humans have a fascination with control. That they control endangered species to the point of stripping their natural tendencies. Is that what is happening to me? Was I saved to be controlled by humans? Will I never return to my home… the bush? I know you can not answer any of these questions or maybe you can, but I am just worrying out loud. Is 2020 the new 2121? Hopefully not with the coronavirus. Maybe just maybe the coronavirus wipes out enough humans to allow for someone else to control humans so they can not control everyone else. Maybe control vs. control is not a good idea. Nonetheless maybe less humans equals less control.
The humans taking care of me and my family have been very nice. I want to believe all humans are like this even if Scomo is not. I do not want the coronavirus to kill a bunch of humans, but maybe it will not be the worse thing. The humans obsession with control is unique, but their enjoyment of company as social creatures I can connect with. I do not know what a polar bear is, but living a life all by yourself sounds lonely. What happens with your baby? I could never imagine having to live on my own. It was hard for awhile with just the humans, but now life has the potential to really turn the corner since my rescue.
As a solitary animal you must have significantly less drama. The humans constantly have stuff to say. I fear their numbers and communication between one another is unrivaled by any other species. Based off gossip alone humans know a lot of people. Maybe a few ant colonies I know could give humans a run for their money. I’m sorry humans took your solidarity away. From the sounds of it your species suffers because of it. I know you are the last polar bear left (sorry to hear that) and I want to thank you for coming to warn us about our changing planet. The humans fascination for control is not one I have ever known, but in this past month I have learned there are a lot of things humans control. Making your notion about humans and their passion for control all the more compelling. Being an animal from Australia and learning that only humans get to decide who controls Australia is the biggest example of human control I have learned about. I will pass on your warnings to my fellow family members and humans who rescued us. Hopefully in time we can change 2121.
G’evening mates,
Coming to y’all from the safety of my human care. I have lots of good news, but let’s start with me not being alone anymore. The other survivors from my family have been relocated as well as I. We are now together in an enclosure that is outdoors. I know we are all outdoors because I saw the sun for the first time in a long while. I always figured I had to be indoors because I could not find the sun for the eucalyptus of me. As you could imagine sleeping in the comfort of your family is always more reassuring, although seeing everyone again brings back the flames all over again. The nightmares have not been as frequent, but have been awful unlike any degree before. Aside from the nightmares my four family members (Saku, Tsuka, Jacinda, Cynda) relocated with me have been comforting to be around. We have been catching up, mourning, and sleeping, but not all in that order since being relocated together. I can speak for all of us when I say the humans who have been taking care of us have been amazing and we are forever grateful. It seems each one of us had a different number for how many of us were saved. Regardless, we are all grateful.
As I promised Huran I looked into algorithms. I did not know you were not human. Or even life. You are a computer… of some kind. That makes you the first computer I have ever communicated with (me typing to write this blog on a computer does not count, right?). First are always the most special. Back to algorithms shall we; when I used my computer to search algorithms I was astonished to learn that they are mainly used by computers. I think you can see the connection I made myself.
Algorithms are a set of rules that can be calculated for problem solving if my search does not do me wrong. Based on my other good news I heard lately; is there any chance an algorithm could be made to repeat the good news?. The good news I recently heard was water. Water fell out of the sky. The humans call it rain. Everyday this week when the humans come in for feeding and treatments they have talked about the rain. With 40 centimeters of rain the humans were saying the flames have been controlled. Not in all of Australia, but some. I overheard the humans fighting the flames are getting a much needed break and control over the fire that they have not had for a long time. Not all of Australia is saved yet from the flames. So Huran I propose a new algorithm to search for. Or another to pursue after (as they say a koala that chases two eucalyptus trees gets none) you finish your current search. Could you figure out an algorithm to produce rain? Or at least flatter the thought? You may learn something about humans or at least what kind of world they inhabit fully. Until a lil’ while ago I did not know that I am in the small corner of Australia.
Lots of good news this week. I enjoy good news. I like to think everyone enjoys good news. Hopefully the rain continues and the next time I am updating y’all about a closer end to the flames. Til’ next time, take care mates.
G’day Huran,
I apologize for asking, but what is a stardate? Has a lot of numbers whatever it is. So you are studying humans and comparing them to machines. Before I continue I should mention that I do not know what a machine is. Sounds pretty lifeless to be honest, but you clearly have lots of life. You are writing a blog and from my understanding only life can write blogs.
Sounds like you are in a similar place as I am. Struggling to understand the humans that is. Since they saved me from the flames I have been under their constant care and protection. As I have been living with them I have been learning a lil’ more every day. Although humans confuse me a lot and so do you. You refer to humans over and over again inconsistently deciding on organics. I have only witnessed humans put organics above their own life in regards to saving me. I am positive when I say that humans made that choice out of kindness in the heart. I do not know what an algorithm is, but I for sure do not use any algorithms in my decision making. The question you ponder of how humans decide the importance of one organic for another is a true mystery. Based on what I have experienced living under the care of humans for the past few weeks is that each human like any animal I have witnessed has a different set of priorities. Does each individual machine have their own set of priorities via an algorithm? If so, that would be similar to each individual organic form as you call us.
I am afraid that your search for an algorithm for human task prioritization may not be successful. Unless you develop an algorithm based on your observations of humans deciding on what task to prioritize. Humans themselves I believe do not function on algorithms. I believe this because I myself do not prioritize my task based on an algorithm. I strongly encourage you to consider creating an algorithm based on humans. I would be very interested to see what that may be (once I learn what an algorithm is) like.
I wish you the best of luck with your search for human algorithms. I also want to thank you, Huran, for intriguing me in algorithms. I will have to learn what they are and how they work as they should have the power to make decisions. Although there are no immediate decisions I need made, the power still intrigues me. Next time I’m here my understanding of algorithms will be better. I promise Huran. G’day mate.
G’day mates. It has been five weeks now with the humans who saved me and let me tell you, they are right, the sleep does get better with time; not much better, but more time will help. That’s enough talk about sleep before yous furry writer gets tired. Before I get ahead of myself I learned about these three periods that keep your sentence going… not bad eh. Let’s keep hopping along.
I do not know if yous know a Bryant, but a lot of the humans treating me have been wearing protection that has that name under their other protection. The double protection I just do not understand… am I really that dangerous… are my claws really that sharp… It would be really nice if humans were to throw me an eucalyptus leaf every now and again. More about this Bryant mate. Everyone and I mean has been wearing protection with Bryant. At least everyone I see. A total of five humans and zero animals. I know this Bryant is a human of sort. Two of my humans still can not help from crying everytime they hear the name… Bryant. The amount of tears could have put out all the flames roaming wild. I came to the conclusion that this human named Bryant must be dead. The tears and everyday protection for the past 11 days were good clues. Obviously it would be a stretch to say that Bryant is dead just off of that. I overheard the humans say that Bryant had died in a helicopter crash. Do not know what a helicopter is, but if it is anything like a car, I would be scared. I have seen a car and those are scary… and humans sit in them like nothing.
The other night my dream got a little spooky. Even though I do not know who Bryant is, I do know it (I do not want to assume gender, I once mistook a platypus’s gender and let’s just say I’ll never forget that day) was in my dream; Bryant of course, but not as a human. As a kangaroo. The protection was a give away. I have never seen no kangaroo ever where protection. Back to my dream… It was jumping as fast as it could from the flames, but lil’ did it know there was no escape. My dream panned back away from Bryant to where the birds are above the trees to show the entire outback engulfed in flames. The flames burned in a bright circle like a fiery ring surrounding the helpless Bryant as it jumped full wind ahead not knowing that a few acres ahead it would jump into a wall of flames. I awoke with a startle as if I was there.I quickly rolled over to lay on my back. For the next thirty minutes I cooled off until I could fall back to sleep. I went back to the same outback, but this time Bryant was no longer there. Bryant was replaced by my family and Milto. They were all running as fast as they could. Again lil’ did they know the inevitable end awaiting them. A horrific scene I was not ready to go through again and in a heap of heat I awoke again.
I do not know you Bryant. I know you are a human. I know you are dead. That I am sorry for and cannot change. I do not know how you died, but I can only hope it was not as horrific as my dream. Whether you were a good human or a bad human I do not know, but I know you are a powerful human (not just anyone can intrude on my dreams). A human with that power I could only hope was good. May you rest on a bed of eucalyptus leaves.
P.S. I do not say that to just anyone, especially a human.
Until next time mates. Take care.
G’day Icy, after reading your blog I was astonished to hear about all the loss occurring due to the bushfires in Australia. A billion animals dead. 25 humans dead. The loss is surreal. I can’t imagine a billion dead bodies in one place. I’m sure my brain when I am sleeping will figure out a way to make the image real. Excuse me, I am Daku and I am from the bush, that I always knew. I now know my bush is located on land humans call Australia, which is where these bushfires you talked about Icy are taking place. Excuse me for asking, but is there a reason the deaths are reported as human or animal? I presume it is because the sources you got your information from must be humans, so they would I assume care more about their own kinds losses. Kind of makes me believe humans rule the world. Or at least they think they do.
So humans have been releasing carbon in the air and that makes the world hotter. To me that sounds like it could get complicated. Although, is the world not already hot enough? I could not imagine sitting in a place cold enough where humans think heating the world is needed. Speaking of which that is where you are from is it not Icy? How is that? The cold lifestyle. You are proof it exists. You do say that you may not be around much longer due to this warming. That would be awful! The world is already hot enough and killing you to get warmer is not worth it. You believe humans are the only ones who can save us? Yet they are also the ones who created this “mess”. How did the humans get all this power? Should they have all this power? I have more questions now than ever. Humans are taking care of me. Nursing me back to health. And you are saying they are responsible for the bushfires at the same time. Humans confuse me.
If you are right Icy, it sounds like humans will be the end to themselves and potentially the rest of us. Thanks to your blog Icy and many others like it I have begun to learn that the world is much bigger than I could have ever imagined. The bush where I am from is just a small part of this giant world, and from my understanding humans have found their way everywhere. How? That is still unclear, but they have managed to spread everywhere and while doing that seaked carbon to warm them. This warmth has flipped my world down under and potentially will flip many others worlds down under. I now fear that the tragedy of the bushfires in my homeland Australia is just the first of many tragedies humans have started with carbon. I will continue my pursuit of learning what is happening in the world with goals of learning about what I can do once healthy to help out with my home. Stay safe Icy and maybe someday we will meet in person to talk more about humans and carbon. Until then G’day mate!
Arvo mates! Last time I was writing to yous we ended on the can of eucalyptus leaves known as humans. As I have said before, I am grateful for them saving my life, protecting me, nursing me back to health. They have taken me in when my home was burned alive. I will never be able to repay humans for all their help. With that being said you humans are a lil’ too touchy. At this point I can put up with it, but at first I was not the best with it. I left a few bite and claw marks. In the bush the humans always looked from afar and whenever they got close I climbed higher up the tree. Can’t quite do that in my new home.
It’s not just the touchiness of humans that can be annoying, it can also be their conversations. Sometimes they just bore me when they discuss what’s on the telly or barbie. Other times though they can excite me in the conversation when they discuss others they have saved from the flames. The other day when the humans came in to feed me and switch my bandages they were discussing the air quality. A lot of it sounded similar to what George had educated me on through the blogs. Then there was something else. All I caught was that it was a sickness in the air. Then the humans shared a quick laugh about how they were safe because who wants to visit a continent on fire. I did not get the joke. If the humans felt safe from the sickness in the air then I think I’m safe from it too.
Sniff sniff sniff… the humans always leave a stench behind when they leave and it is not like it is the same stench everytime. It changes, quite frequently. Some days it’s a pungent stench that reminds me a lot of my cousin Colo’s borries. Which believe me smell awful. Other days it smells like a field of wildflowers. I do not understand how a human can smell like a flower, but then again humans are constantly surprising me. The oddest days are when humans leave behind this musk scent. It reminds me a lot of a mating scent. I am astonished by the humans remarkable ability to change scents so frequently and often. I have once had the same human tend to me for the same day and change scents from morning to night. I do not know how yous do it, but the scent changes are what mess with me the most. I’m more of a same face same scent kind of bear. To me it just keeps things simple and I like things simple. Multiple scents not simple.
Humans also are always wearing some protection over their skin, but not all their skin sometimes. Some skin I guess is more special than others. I do not understand why the skin on a human’s stomach deserves protection over the skin on their hands. It is above my understanding I presume. Human clothing is something I like the most, even if it does carry their smells. I like the many colors and grip. Their protection has proved to be much easier to climb on then their unprotected skin.
Humans are good and nice. They have done a lot for me and I am sure do a lot for the world. I’m sure they must annoy themselves. I mean I heard of this Scomo and he seems to be the most annoying human in the world. Even with Scomo out there I still like humans. Although humans would not be my first pick species wise to be stuck with.
Until next time, G’day mates!
G’day George, I am Daku. After reading your blog I have a weird feeling we could be from the same place. A new weird deep feeling. I’m from the bush and I know that is near the outback. I am unsure about the north and south, but you wrote you are from Australia. Does that mean that is where I am too? Australia? The fires have been terrible indeed. Have you too been rescued from the flames? Like me? If not, lucky you. The flames are not fun. Moving on from the flames, maybe you can confirm a few things. Do humans have super strength or a special relationship with trees, specifically eucalyptus trees? Are humans all that are left? I only ask because I have yet to see anybody else. No lizards, snakes, frogs, birds, or other koalas. I hope there are others.
Moving along I am shocked and frightened to hear how many homes were lost. Do you know if they have accounted for my homes lost? If so, do they know if any of my family members have made it. The air where I am seems to be fine and I do not know what the air quality index is or what it means, but that does not sound like it is good. I hope my air stays breathable for the meantime.
Scomo sounds like a bad person. Like the people who cut trees down. I do not know what coal is, but I do know that it is not more important than the trees. If this Scomo prefers coal over the trees then I do not like him. The video of the person fighting the fire was frightening looking, but I agree with him. He is a good person. More people like him should be in charge of people instead of Scomo. Also quick question if you do not mind? If I am from Australia like you George how come I did not get a say in Scomo being in charge? Also I did not know he was in charge of my bush. Does that mean he was in charge of me? I did not know this and it never mattered I would have never listened. I do not follow someone who does not like trees.
I’m happy the rain is coming. How do you know that? I looked up and did not see any black clouds. Maybe the rain will put out the fire. I hope that happens. I’ll go to bed on that note. Should make the sleep a lil’ better. Goodnight yous.
